A coupon in Siren is Siren’s own copy of a coupon from one of your stores, linked to the collaborator it credits. You create the coupon in your store, and its discount, usage limits, and expiry stay there. Siren keeps the code, the stores it works at, how often shoppers use it, and who it credits. When a shopper uses a linked code, Siren credits that collaborator, as long as they’re active and in an active program that tracks Coupon code used.

Siren > Coupon codes lists every coupon code your stores send Siren and every code a shopper uses, with the collaborator each one credits and how often it’s used. Codes come from your store, so you create them there, as Set Up Affiliate Coupons describes. The screen appears once an active integration provides coupons, or once codes exist. When no active integration provides coupons, the codes you have stay listed and still credit collaborators when a store sends them. The header’s “Activity” button shows changes to all coupon codes.

On Siren Cloud, the screen is Track > Coupon codes, and each Property has a “Coupon codes” card with its own codes. It also lists Stripe promotion codes and Shopify discount codes. A WordPress site connected to Siren Cloud has no Coupon codes screen of its own, so you use Siren Cloud’s, and you can still link a code from the store’s coupon panel, which shows in Siren Cloud. A team member who can’t reach every store a coupon works at can’t link or merge it.

How codes reach Siren

Siren records a coupon when your store saves it, and follows later changes to it:

  • WooCommerce: when a coupon is created, changed, trashed, restored, or deleted, from the coupon screen, the REST API, or WP-CLI.
  • Easy Digital Downloads: when a discount is saved or deleted.
  • LifterLMS: when a coupon is saved, which covers a new coupon, a rename, the trash, and a restore, and when it’s deleted for good.
  • NorthCommerce: when a coupon is created, changed, or deleted.

A code Siren hasn’t recorded yet becomes a coupon the first time a shopper uses it, linked to no one. When the store later sends its own record of that coupon, Siren adds it to the same coupon.

Siren Cloud records a Stripe promotion code when it’s created or changed in Stripe, as long as your webhook sends promotion_code.created and promotion_code.updated. A payment names the promotion code by its ID, which starts with promo_, and Siren Cloud finds the same coupon by either the code or the ID. Stripe has no event for removing a promotion code, so one you make inactive stays listed. A Shopify discount code reaches Siren Cloud the first time an order uses it, so add it with “Add code” if you want to link it before then. A WordPress site connected to Siren Cloud sends Siren Cloud the same coupon changes its store plugins report, as listed above.

Why codes are merged or split

Each store or plugin keeps its own copy of a code, and Siren keeps each copy as its own coupon, because the same text can mean different coupons in different places. When you mean one code for one collaborator everywhere, merge the copies. The merged coupon works at every store, credits one collaborator wherever a shopper uses it, and counts all its uses in one place. Siren suggests a merge when the same code, ignoring case, shows up at another store or plugin, and it never merges on its own.

Splitting is the reverse. It turns one store’s copy into a coupon of its own, linked to no one, with the uses that came through that store. When the same code is in two places shows how to do both.

Give a collaborator a code

1

Create the coupon in your store

Set its discount, usage limits, and expiry the way you normally would.

2

Find the code in Siren

Open Siren > Coupon codes and search by code. If it isn't listed yet, add it with "Add code", as described below.

3

Choose "Link to collaborator"

Open the row's menu, choose "Link to collaborator", and find the collaborator.

4

Click "Link"

The code credits them for uses from then on.

5

Check that they can earn

The collaborator must be active and in an active program that tracks Coupon code used.

The collaborator sees the code on the “Coupons” page of their portal, with a button to copy it. On a WordPress store, you can also pick the collaborator in the coupon’s “Assign To Collaborator” panel, as Set Up Affiliate Coupons describes.

On Siren Cloud, open Track > Coupon codes instead. Create a Stripe promotion code in your Stripe dashboard, or a Shopify discount code in your Shopify admin. A Shopify code isn’t listed until a shopper uses it, so add it first with “Add code” and choose its Property.

Read the list

Each row is one coupon:

  • Code is the code shoppers type. Click it to see where it works.
  • Stores shows a badge for each plugin the code works in. A badge reads “Every integration” when the code credits sales from any plugin on the site. A struck-through badge means that store removed the code. On Siren Cloud, each badge also names the Property.
  • Linked collaborator is who the code credits, with their status when they aren’t active, such as “(inactive)”. “Not linked” means it credits no one, and “Collaborator no longer exists” means the collaborator was deleted.
  • Uses counts how often shoppers used the code, with the date of the last use. A use starts when a shopper applies the code. Applying it again before ordering doesn’t add another, and the order joins that use. An order that brings the code without an earlier application, as on plugins and stores that report a code only with the order, adds a use. So Uses can run ahead of orders when shoppers apply a code and don’t buy. Uses are counted whether or not the code is linked or the collaborator is active.

Find a code

Search by code or collaborator name, then press Enter or click “Search”. “Filter by integration” narrows the list to one plugin, and “Filter by link” to codes that are linked or not. On Siren Cloud, “Filter by Property” narrows it to one store. Tick “Possible matches only” to see codes Siren thinks may be the same coupon, and “Show coupons removed from every store” to bring back codes your stores deleted.

Open the row’s menu and choose “Link to collaborator”, find the collaborator, and click “Link”. For a linked code, the menu offers “Change collaborator” (the button then reads “Save”) and “Unlink”. A change affects uses from then on. Sales already credited stay with the collaborator who had the code. On WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads, a cart where the shopper applied the code before the change also stays with that collaborator. On LifterLMS and NorthCommerce, Siren sees the code when the order is placed, so an order placed after the change credits the new collaborator. Coupon Code Tracking explains.

You can also link codes from two other places:

  • The collaborator’s page has a “Coupon codes” card. “Link a coupon” lists codes no one holds, and a search finds any code. If someone else holds it, Siren asks before moving it.
  • The coupon’s own edit screen in your store has an “Assign To Collaborator” panel, as Set Up Affiliate Coupons describes.

A linked code credits the collaborator only when they’re active and in an active program that tracks Coupon code used.

Add a code the store hasn’t sent

Use this for a code that exists in your store but hasn’t reached Siren yet, so you can link it before anyone uses it.

1

Click "Add code"

It's at the top of the screen.

2

Enter the "Code"

Type it the way customers will.

3

Choose the "Integration"

The plugin or store the code belongs to.

4

Choose a collaborator (optional)

Use "Collaborator (optional)" to link it now.

5

Click "Add code"

Siren matches it when the store sends it or a shopper uses it.

On Siren Cloud, the form also asks for the “Property”. Shopify sends a code only the first time a shopper uses it, so add a Shopify code here to link it before then. For a Stripe promotion code made before your webhook sent promotion code events, or without those events, add the promotion code’s ID, which starts with promo_ and is on the promotion code’s page in your Stripe dashboard.

When the same code is in two places

Each plugin keeps its own copy of a code, and Siren treats each copy as its own coupon with its own collaborator. On Siren Cloud, each store keeps its own copy too. So SAVE20 in WooCommerce and SAVE20 in Easy Digital Downloads can credit different people.

When the same code shows up in another plugin or store, its row shows “Possible match” with “Merge” and “Not the same”. Siren never merges on its own.

  • Merge with “Merge with…” in the row’s menu, then add the other coupon from “Possible matches” or with “Find another coupon code”. Or tick at least two rows and click “Merge”. Choose the coupon to keep (“Keep this one”). The merged coupon takes the others’ stores, uses, and activity, and credits one collaborator wherever it works. If the coupons credit different collaborators, Siren asks who it should credit. You can merge up to 20 at a time.
  • Split a copy off with “Stores”, then “Split off” on that store. The copy becomes its own coupon, not linked to anyone, and takes its uses with it.
  • Not the same stops Siren from suggesting that pair again.

When a coupon changes in your store

Renaming a coupon in your store keeps its link. In WooCommerce and LifterLMS, trashing a coupon stops the code crediting, and restoring it brings the credit back. Deleting a coupon for good stops that plugin’s copy crediting. The coupon leaves the list once every copy is removed, and “Show coupons removed from every store” shows it. Making a coupon with the same code again in the same plugin picks up its link.

“Remove” in the row’s menu deletes a code only when no store sent it and no shopper used it, such as one you added by mistake. Each row’s “Activity” lists who the code was linked to and when, and any merges and splits.
