Why an affiliate visit may not become a member-registration referral
A recorded affiliate visit does not prove that a member registration became an attributed referral. Learn how to find the last confirmed step.
An affiliate dashboard records a visit. Someone registers through a membership form. The visit still says Converted: No, and no referral appears. That was the reported problem with SliceWP and Ultimate Member.
SliceWP support answered that case: SliceWP does not integrate with Ultimate Member for conversion tracking or customer-to-affiliate linking in that flow. Support also said there is no simple snippet or workaround. The recorded visit shows that the click was tracked; it does not make that Ultimate Member registration a SliceWP referral.
Decide what registration was meant to count
A visit, a new member account, and a referral are different records. For a registration to produce a referral, the account must reach the milestone the program treats as qualifying. The affiliate product must support that form and event, receive the event, associate it with the referrer, and create a referral under the program’s rules. A visit marked Converted: No tells you the final outcome is absent; it does not identify which later step is missing.
Pin down the milestone before testing. Did the form create an account immediately, or was the intended event email confirmation, administrator approval, or payment? Record the form and membership plugin names, what happened to the account, the event you expected to qualify, and when it happened. A successful form submission may be earlier than the event the affiliate program uses.
Next, check the affiliate product’s documentation or support guidance for that precise plugin and event. In the reported SliceWP and Ultimate Member case, the support answer resolves this check: the integration needed for those conversions and links is unavailable. For another product or form, confirm support before investigating attribution settings.
Run a test you can trace
When the vendor supports the form and event, use a fresh visitor context and one known affiliate link. Confirm that the visit appears, saving its identifier if one is available. Complete the intended registration form, then save the account result and timestamp. Keeping those details together lets you compare records from the same attempt.
Read the records in order. If the visit exists but the member account does not, investigate the registration flow. If the account exists, check whether the qualifying milestone actually occurred. Then look for that event in the affiliate product, if it exposes event records. An event absent from a dashboard is a question for the vendor, especially when the product does not expose every event it receives.
If the event is confirmed but has no affiliate association, ask how that supported flow links the event to the visit or affiliate. If the association exists but no referral appears, ask which eligibility or referral-creation rule applied. Browser storage, redirects, cross-domain journeys, and timing can be useful questions for a supported flow. They are not the explanation SliceWP support gave for the Ultimate Member case.
Give support the last confirmed step
Send the vendor the affiliate link and affiliate identifier, the visit identifier if available, and the test time. Name the registration form, membership plugin, completed milestone, and event you expected to qualify. State whether you confirmed the member account, event, affiliate association, and referral record. If a record is not visible to you, say that rather than treating it as proof the event never arrived.
This gives support a specific handoff to investigate: for example, an account was created at the recorded time, but you cannot find an associated qualifying event. It is more useful than reporting only that conversion tracking is broken.
Choosing a membership program flow
If you are evaluating a membership reward program, confirm its connected platform and qualifying milestone before promising a reward for signups or member activity. The membership-sites page covers that program selection decision.
